The Prenatal Village Gathering

For pregnant women and supporting women who care about birth.

We come together in this special gathering to help our pregnant sisters feel nurtured, heard, supported and nourished through sharing a nutritious vegetarian lunch, stories, a talking circle, meditation and more. As supporters we are grandmothers, mothers, sisters, aspiring midwives and professional midwives, doulas, nurses, doctors, yoga teachers, psychiatrists, pharmacists, energy and body workers, ministers, and other women who care deeply about simple and sacred birth; we gather out of selfless service to support and encourage the instinctual life of those with us wanting to birth in power against a modern current of fear and unnecessary interventions.

Together our support offers the younger women…
• Nourishment and inspiration for their body, babies and spirit
• The feeling of being bathed in a sense of belonging
• Trust in their intuition
• Strengthened confidence in their body and its knowledge of the best answers for it (whether ‘natural’ or otherwise)
• Belief in themselves and tools to recognize their inner knowing
• Motivation to ‘do it their own way’
• Encouragement to speak their Truth
• A place to find peace in making their own decisions

This is for you new mothers, too! Come with your babe in arms. We welcome you.

For all who wish to come, please email Nisreen, who is organizing the shared lunch: nisoazar@gmail.com . If you want to bring a beloved elder woman in your life, please do! We ask that she email Nisreen and arrange to bring a potluck dish to share, along with the other elders and supporters in our gathering.

Infant Massage: full body sequence

Infant Massage: full body sequence

For Parents and Babies (3 weeks to 1 year old)

Infant massage is one of the most rewarding and loving activities you can share with your baby. At Sri Janani Yoga, you learn a full-body massage sequence based on ancient, timeless Ayurveda massage techniques, accompanied by specific baby-movement exercises and playful songs that are fun for you and your baby. This wonderful combination helps to develop your infant’s brain and nervous system, improve visual acuity and stimulate the senses.

You also learn techniques that, with regular massage, can…
• help your child sleep better
• soothe and calm baby during teething
• enhance baby’s digestion and elimination, and relieve symptoms of colic
• prepare your child for rolling, turning and crawling

• help avoid torticollis (when an infant’s head turns mostly to one side) and plagiocephaly (flathead)
• foster more nurturing tummy time between you and your baby

Please bring an extra blanket, or soft towel or two, for your baby to keep warm and comfortable during the massage. Since we’ll be working with oil for the massage (complementary), an everyday blanket is best, rather than your treasured heirloom.

Rate includes parent and baby; spouse/partner welcome at no extra charge. A handout of techniques is given for your home practice.

The Labor Workshop

For Pregnant Women and Their Partners

Taught by Colette Crawford, RN

New mothers often ask, “What will labor be like?” “How will I cope with the pain?”
Their partners often wonder, “Will I be able to help her the way she needs?”

In this 2-hour workshop you’ll both become more aware of how to connect with each other and feel more confident in your labor and birth with an overview of the primary tools that can help. You’ll also learn about the normal process of labor and how our environment affects it.

Additional topics include…
• Breathing, massage, acupressure and relaxation techniques
• Specific movements that may help your baby move into a more optimal position
• Positions that can help mothers cope with the pain of labor

By the end of class you’ll both feel more prepared and excited about your baby’s birth. You can take this class several times if you want, and at any stage of your pregnancy.
