Craniosacral Therapy for Pregnancy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is ideal for pregnancy as it helps the mother’s body release fascial adhesions allowing for better alignment of the spine and pelvis. This allows room for baby to rotate into an optimal position during labor. Releasing the fascial diaphragms of the pelvis, ribs and chest gives more space for the ribs and lungs to expand. This is necessary for increased tidal volume (air inhaled and exhaled in one breath) to bring more oxygen to mother and baby. CST can help to increase the mother’s comfort, especially when baby is kicking up into her ribs.

CST balances uterine ligaments, aligning the uterus, which creates more space for the baby. Additionally this “lengthens” or relaxes the pelvic floor muscles. Kegel exercises have long been known to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. However, contracting the pelvic floor without relaxing it shortens these muscles, which increases pelvic floor weakness. Longer pelvic floor muscles give the tone necessary to prevent urinary incontinence, open to birth a baby, keep your pelvic organs in their right place, and enhance your sexual experience.
